HANS HURKOO

Confidence is the first impression that you will have of Hans. He never fails to impress with his commercially driven attitude.

Hans has been involved in the financial services sector in Mauritius for the past fifteen years. He is known for his in-depth knowledge of the financial services regulatory framework and is regularly solicited to assist licensees facing regulatory actions in the form of disqualification from holding office or a suspension or revocation of their licence.

As an executive, Hans is also responsible for the smooth running of the firm’s operations and ensures that the firm lives up to its expectations and commitments.

In his spare time, Hans enjoys trail running and often invites the members of the firm to join him in his adventures. Hans has a great passion for football and is an ardent fan of Liverpool Football Club.

BASHEEMA FARREEDUN

Basheema leads the firm’s transactional team. Her areas of practice cover a wide range of commercial and corporate services including M&A, banking, project finance, setting up of private equity funds, and listing of companies on the primary and secondary markets in Mauritius. Prior to joining C & A Law, she practised for a number of years at a tier one law firm in Mauritius in various fields, namely commercial and civil litigation and capital markets.

She has a good command of the civil, corporate and commercial laws and is always willing to share her experience and assist the firm’s members to resolve whatever complex issues they are faced with. She is highly valued by clients and the firm for her unfailing commitment and dedication.

Basheema was also a part-time lecturer in Droit International Privé and Foundations of Mauritius Law at the University of Mauritius. Besides law, Basheema is fond of spending time with her family and friends.

Anjana RAMBURUTH-SEESURN

Blessed with a contagious laughter and her gift of the gab, it is no wonder that Anjana has an art to build easy rapport with her clients and members of the firm.

Anjana has more than 17 years standing at the Mauritius Bar and she heads the firm’s corporate and dispute resolution team. She advises on a range of corporate, commercial and corporate finance matters, including banking and structured finance transactions, credit restructurings, derivatives transactions, securities offerings, public and private M&As, litigation, insolvency and arbitration matters. Anjana is also a good listener and that positions her as someone who understands the needs of her clients, and through effective communication with them, she is capable of deftly navigating them through their legal complexities.

Prior to joining C & A Law, Anjana was a counsel at a tier 1 law firm, where she gained significant experience leading and advising on wide range of corporate, commercial and corporate finance transactions.

Anjana is a law graduate from the London School of Economics. Beyond the legal world, Anjana is a very social person who enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. During her free time, her green fingers take care of her flowers and lush leaves.

Jenya CHINIEN

Jenya is a passionate litigator, who regularly appears before the Supreme Court and the lower Courts of Mauritius for civil, commercial and employment law cases.

Besides litigation, Jenya also has in-depth knowledge of the financial services regulatory framework in Mauritius. She is regularly solicited as an expert consultant to provide assistance to the licensees of the Financial Services Commission in addressing regulatory issues before the Enforcement Committee and the Financial Services Review Panel. She has also mastered the capital market and securities framework and regularly advises clients on the setting up of investment funds.

Jenya’s excellent communication skills allow her to truly empathise and connect with clients on a deeper level and help her achieve optimum results in her cases. During her free time, Jenya enjoys baking for her colleagues and reading.

Davina DIAN

The calm yet assertive Davina, one of the pioneers of C & A Law, has more than 12 years’ experience in areas of compliance and anti-money laundering (“AML”) legislations pertaining to the financial services regulatory framework in Mauritius and Seychelles. She is also an MQA approved trainer in law.

Davina regularly assists clients in implementing their compliance and risk systems and corporate governance framework. She also conducts in-house training on AML matters for various licensees of the Mauritius Financial Services Commission.

In her spare time, Davina provides academic support to children in the primary schools of her locality and runs literacy classes for adults during weekends. She also enjoys travelling to learn about different cultures and loves cooking for her loved ones.

BHESHRAJ CHUMMUN

Bheshraj is a self-motivated player who achieves the milestones which he sets for himself. He joined C & A Law as compliance officer in January 2015.

Bheshraj is a firm believer in the adage that obstacles are stepping stones to success and thus perennially hones his skills and aptitudes to exceed the high standards expected of him in the ever-evolving sphere of compliance. The integrity and honesty with which he undertakes the tasks allocated to him place him in the top reliability quadrant of the firm.

The AML/CFT framework is no secret for Bheshraj as he constantly keeps himself abreast with new trends in this domain. He is responsible for designing the AML/CFT policy framework for various types of businesses in Mauritius and Seychelles, assisting licensees in conducting their business risk assessment and carrying out independent AML/CFT audits for licensees. He also provides support to other members of the firm in assisting licensees for post regulatory inspection.

The aesthetic side of Bheshraj nurtures a great passion for cars.

Rubyna Ramah-Ramsamy

Empathetic and humane are the key traits that best define Rubyna. She has a natural way in dealing and feeling the needs of the clients and is able to propose proactive courses of action which would assist clients to remain AML/CFT compliant whilst meeting their commercial objectives.

With more than 12 years in the financial regulatory space, Rubyna has gathered experience and expertise in the capital market sector, on enforcement matters and in international relations. At the firm, Rubyna is responsible for the conduct of independent AML/CFT audits for licensees, and regularly assists clients during investigations and inspections conducted by the regulator.

Since 2014, Rubyna has been lecturing on a part-time basis at the University of Mauritius, a vocation which provides her with an opportunity to accompany her students into making right choices academically and beyond the confines of the classroom.

She is also a self-taught baker who has made a range of pastries and desserts - a real delight for her two children.

SWATEE ASERIGADU

The independent and proactive Swatee, who joined C & A Law as compliance officer in February 2012, has developed a flair in understanding her clients’ needs while at the same time protecting the sincerity of their businesses through compliance. She has a thorough understanding of the anti-money laundering framework in Mauritius and Seychelles.

In addition to her tasks as a compliance officer, Swatee also regularly assists lawyers in their legal research and conducts due diligence searches at the relevant regulatory bodies in Mauritius.

Beyond the legal and regulatory framework, Swatee is actively involved in charitable causes.

AURÉLIE LEBRASSE

A great team player, Aurélie’s previous experience in the customer care and administration arena have allowed her to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.

Although Aurelie is currently completing her LLB at the University of Mauritius, she has demonstrated, in her interaction with her colleagues, that she already possesses the necessary critical and analytical mind. She is of invaluable support to the legal and compliance teams.

Apart from being someone who savours fine cuisine, Aurélie enjoys cooking for her family and sharing her delicacies with the other members of the firm.

ASIYA BUNDHOO

Asiya’s joyful and positive vibes uplift the atmosphere in the office and it is with a real pleasure that other members of the firm relate with her in the sign language.

Asiya was formerly an assistant teacher of the Mauritius Sign Language and has worked as a news anchor for the national broadcasting company in Mauritius Sign Language for twelve years.

At the firm, Asiya is responsible for conducting due diligence on various types of licensees and reviewing files of existing and new clients to ensure that risk assessments are being carried out effectively.

She believes in the power of the present moment, and her effervescent personality transpires as she engages in her work and pursues her various passions (social work, yoga, cooking and caring for her pets) with renewed energy and incomparable zeal..

Saad MAUDARBOCUS

A qualified accountant with nearly a decade spent in the accounting field through reputed audit firms and in one of the largest management companies in Mauritius, Saad’s solid experience and strong understanding of financial business operations are of great assistance to the firm.

Saad is responsible for all financial, accounting, and fiscal matters. With C & A Law’s expansion, his focus is to ensure the financial growth of the organisation by developing practical and sound financial strategies. He also works in close collaboration with other teams to ensure the smooth running of the company and regularly shares his expertise on various subjects.

Presently a member of the global ACCA body, Saad is on route to attain fellowship. Fellowship is a significant milestone and achieving it demonstrates extensive experience and long-term commitment to professionalism and ethics.

Saad loves spending quality time with his family. He has also participated and won various carrom, scrabble and bowling tournaments.

Divya MOHUN

Divya, a bubbly and outgoing young lady, has a knack for creative projects and enjoys what she does. With her solid foundation in business analysis and human resources management, she brings organisation and speed to the everyday office needs of the firm.

Prior to joining C & A Law, Divya was in the Human Resources & Administration Department of the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius. At the firm, Divya is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources management, including recruitment, training, promoting good employee relations, and ensuring employee wellness and safety, in accordance with internal policies of the firm and applicable laws in Mauritius. She also plans, directs and coordinates all the administrative functions of the firm.

In her free time, Divya enjoys her shopping spree and maximises family time.

MIRELLA BOOKHUN

Mirella, one of the first members of C & A Law, is the backbone of the firm.

She ensures that everyone at the firm works in a conducive environment. She understands the needs of every member of the firm and adds her special touch to boost the energy level of everyone throughout the day. People enjoy her outgoing personality and always feel welcomed by her warm smile.

In her free time, Mirella loves writing, composing and singing her own lyrics and melodies.

Poonum HULLODHUR

With her contagious smile, Poonum has a natural way of connecting with people.

MADHURI RAJCOOMAR

The friendly and polite Madhuri is the receptionist and administrative officer of the firm.

Her previous experience as a marketing executive for a leading media group has allowed her to facilitate effective communication between the firm’s clients and the lawyers. She assists the lawyers at the firm with the preparation of their court files, scheduling of appointments and maintaining proper records of their files.

Tatiana TERCIER
